Geography
Montserrat is a small, green volcanic island in the Leeward Islands of the eastern Caribbean, southwest of Antigua. Since 1995 the active Soufrière Hills volcano has buried the former capital, Plymouth, and rendered the southern half an exclusion zone.
Often called the “Emerald Isle of the Caribbean” for its Irish heritage and green landscape, its population now lives in the safe north.
