Countries with IKEA Stores in 2026 (Map): All 64 Markets

Key Takeaways

  • 64 markets, 500+ stores. As of mid-2026 IKEA operates in 64 franchise markets worldwide, with its global counter last synchronised at 504 stores across 63 markets (28 November 2025) โ€” and rising.
  • Europe is the heartland. 32 of IKEAโ€™s markets are in Europe, where the Swedish chain was born. Asia-Pacific (14) and the Middle East & North Africa (10) are the next-biggest regions.
  • Newest market: New Zealand. IKEA opened its first New Zealand store โ€” a 34,000 mยฒ Auckland blue box โ€” on 4 December 2025.
  • Next up: Panama & Costa Rica. Both are confirmed as IKEAโ€™s next new markets, though opening dates and formats havenโ€™t been announced. Russia has exited and Ukraine is paused.
  • From big blue box to small city stores. IKEA is rolling out around 20 smaller compact and city-centre stores across Europe and North America โ€” a shift away from the giant out-of-town warehouse.

Few retailers are as instantly recognisable as IKEA. The blue-and-yellow warehouse, the flat-pack furniture, the meatballs and the maze-like showroom have become a global shorthand for affordable design. But where in the world can you actually visit one?

As of mid-2026, IKEA operates in 64 franchise markets โ€” and its most recent global counter listed 504 stores across 63 markets (synchronised 28 November 2025), a figure that has only grown since. Where IKEA operates

IKEAโ€™s footprint is heavily weighted towards Europe, its home region, with the rest spread across Asia, the Middle East and the Americas. Note that IKEA counts franchise markets rather than sovereign countries โ€” so Hong Kong, Macau, Puerto Rico and Spainโ€™s islands are counted as separate territories from their parent geographies.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ Europe โ€” 32 markets

The heartland. IKEA runs full-size stores in nearly every European country, from Sweden, Germany, France, the UK, Italy, Spain, Poland to the Baltics and the Balkans. Ukraine remains a market but its retail operations are currently paused, and Russia โ€” once one of IKEAโ€™s biggest markets โ€” has exited entirely.

๐ŸŒ Asia-Pacific โ€” 14 markets

IKEAโ€™s fastest-growing frontier. Full-size stores operate in China, Japan, South Korea, India, Australia and across Southeast Asia. Hong Kong and Macau are served by urban and mall-based stores rather than the classic out-of-town blue box, and New Zealand became the newest market in December 2025.

๐Ÿ•Œ Middle East & North Africa โ€” 10 markets

A long-established region for IKEA, with stores across the Gulf (Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman), the Levant (Jordan, Israel) and North Africa (Egypt, Morocco), all run by local franchisee groups.

๐ŸŒŽ The Americas โ€” 7 markets (plus 2 on the way)

In North America, IKEA operates in the United States and Canada. Across Latin America and the Caribbean it has entered Mexico, Chile, Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico โ€” and Panama and Costa Rica are confirmed as the next two new markets.

IKEA in Europe

Europe is where IKEA began (in ร„lmhult, Sweden, in 1943) and it remains the densest part of the map โ€” almost the entire continent is covered.

From big blue box to small city stores

For decades IKEA meant one thing: an enormous out-of-town warehouse โ€” the famous โ€œblue box.โ€ Thatโ€™s changing. IKEA is now opening smaller compact and city-centre stores to reach shoppers who donโ€™t want to drive to the edge of town. In 2026 the company set out to open around 20 new smaller locations across Europe and North America within six months, and reported more than 20 openings globally by the end of April alone.

Recent and upcoming examples include compact stores in Limoges and Le Mans (France), Pune (India), small stores in Beijing and Shenzhen (China), city stores in Los Angeles and a planned second Manhattan store in SoHo, New York. India alone is planning 25 small and medium stores over five years. These are the dots on the interactive map above.

Whatโ€™s next for IKEA

Beyond the compact-store push, IKEAโ€™s next new countries are Panama and Costa Rica, both confirmed but without announced opening dates. With New Zealand only just added and Latin America expanding, IKEAโ€™s map is still growing โ€” even as the format of the stores themselves keeps shrinking.
