How to play

Daily Challenge — ten Asian countries to locate, the same for every player today. Finish to reveal your green-and-red result grid and share it.
Locate — you are given a country name and click it on the map of Asia. Twenty countries per round.
Name It — the reverse: a country is highlighted and you name it, by multiple choice (Easy), first-letter hint (Medium) or typing (Hard).
Speed Run — locate as many countries as you can in 90 seconds, building a streak multiplier.
Minefield — place every Asian country in one continuous run; one wrong tap ends it. How far can you get?

The United Nations lists 48 sovereign states in the Asian region (49 if you count Russia, whose landmass is mostly Asian but whose population is mostly European). This quiz covers the 46 UN member states classed as Asia in our data — the five transcontinental countries usually quizzed here (Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan) are all included, while Russia and Cyprus appear in the Europe Map Quiz instead.

Tips for learning the map of Asia

Learn it region by region — Western Asia (the Middle East and Caucasus), Central Asia (the “stans”), South Asia (the Indian subcontinent), East Asia (China, the Koreas, Japan, Mongolia) and Southeast Asia (mainland plus the archipelagos).

How the daily challenge works

The daily set is generated from the calendar date with a seeded shuffle, so every player in the world gets the same ten countries on the same day — no account, no server tracking you. When you finish, your result is encoded as a grid of green (correct) and red (wrong) squares, ready to copy or share. Come back tomorrow for a fresh set and keep your streak alive.

Data & method

Country outlines are drawn from Natural Earth (public domain) via the world-atlas 1:50m dataset, and country facts from the open mledoze/countries dataset (ODbL). Countries are joined on their ISO-3166 numeric code, filtered to the Asian set with a capital, and the whole dataset is bundled into the app — so it loads instantly and works offline, with no tracking.

Which Asian countries are hardest to place?

The usual trip-ups are the tightly-packed clusters: the five Central Asian “stans” (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan), the small Gulf states (Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the UAE), the three Caucasus countries (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan), and the smaller Southeast Asian nations (Brunei, Timor-Leste, Laos). The tiny city-states and island nations are the toughest of all, which is why this quiz marks each with a clickable dot.

Does it include Russia and Turkey?

Turkey is included — along with the other four transcontinental states (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan) that are conventionally quizzed in Asia. Russia is not: although most of its territory is in Asia, it is classed as European in our data and appears in the Europe Map Quiz instead, so it is not double-counted across the two continent quizzes.

How do I click the tiny countries like Singapore and Bahrain?

The smallest states — Singapore, Bahrain and the Maldives — are far too small to see at continent scale, so the map draws a dot with a generous tap area at each one. You do not need pinpoint accuracy — just tap the dot. You can also pinch or scroll to zoom in and drag to pan for a closer look at crowded areas like the Gulf or Southeast Asia.
