✈️ Maputo (MPM)
Maputo International Airport sits just a few kilometres from the centre of the capital and is Mozambique’s largest and busiest airport by a wide margin. It is the principal hub of LAM, the national flag carrier, and the country’s main international gateway. A modern terminal, built with Chinese support, opened in 2010 and gave the airport a capacity well ahead of the rest of the network.

Beira International Airport serves Mozambique’s second city and the main port of the central region, in Sofala province. The city is the saltwater end of the Beira Corridor, the rail and road route that carries cargo inland to Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi, which gives the airport a strong freight and business role alongside passenger traffic.

It is the jumping-off point for the Island of Mozambique (Ilha de Moçambique), the former colonial capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site a couple of hours away on the coast.

Mozambique’s other airports
Beyond these eight, a few smaller airports round out the scheduled map. Chimoio (VPY), capital of Manica province near the Zimbabwe border, and Lichinga (VXC), the highland capital of remote Niassa province by Lake Niassa, both sit on LAM’s domestic network, with Maputo acting as the connecting point for most journeys. Although Chimoio shows a route count similar to some of the airports above, it is a smaller regional field rather than a tourism or business gateway.
One airport stands out for its scale rather than its traffic. Nacala (MNC) in the north opened a large, modern international terminal in 2014, but it has so far seen only light scheduled service and remains far below its capacity.
