Major Airports in Israel

Key Takeaways

  • Ben Gurion is Israel's gateway to the world. Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) reaches roughly 93 regularly-served nonstop destinations — virtually all of Israel's scheduled international and long-haul traffic flows through it.
  • Just three airports carry scheduled flights. Only Ben Gurion (TLV), Haifa (HFA) and Ramon (ETM) appear in the route data. After TLV, the other two are small fields with a handful of regional and domestic routes.
  • Direct US flights run only from Tel Aviv. Ben Gurion connects nonstop to around eight US cities — New York, Newark, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, Washington, Boston and Fort Lauderdale — flown by El Al alongside United, Delta and American.
  • Ramon is Israel's southern gateway to Eilat. Opened in 2019 in the Timna Valley near Eilat, Ramon (ETM) replaced the old Eilat city airport and handles domestic links plus seasonal leisure charters to the Red Sea resort.
  • Haifa serves the north on a short runway. Haifa (HFA) has a short coastal runway that limits it to small aircraft, focusing on domestic hops to Eilat and short leisure routes to Cyprus and Greece, led by start-up carrier Air Haifa.

Israel is a small country with an outsized place in global aviation. Almost the entire network runs through a single airport: Ben Gurion International (TLV), just outside Tel Aviv, which serves as the hub of national flag carrier El Al and the base of Israeli airlines Israir and Arkia. Two other airports carry scheduled passengers — Haifa in the north and Ramon in the far south near Eilat — but both are small regional fields. Foreign airlines suspended much of their Israel service during the 2023–2024 conflict, though the network has since largely recovered.

Below we map and rank Israel’s airports by the number of nonstop destinations each one serves, drawn from live route data on AirportRoutes. Because the figures come from observed flight data — a large sample rather than a complete published timetable — we treat them as a guide to relative connectivity rather than exact, official totals.

Which Israeli airports have direct flights to the US?

Long-haul flying from Israel is concentrated almost entirely at Ben Gurion. TLV offers nonstop service to roughly eight US cities — New York (JFK), Newark, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, Washington, Boston and Fort Lauderdale — led by El Al, the Israeli flag carrier, alongside US airlines United, Delta and American, which have resumed their Tel Aviv routes.

Neither Haifa nor Ramon has any transatlantic service — both are short- and medium-haul airports. For travellers heading to or from the United States, the practical answer is simple: fly via Ben Gurion, or connect through a major European or Gulf hub.

Ben Gurion International Airport sits near Lod, about 20 km southeast of Tel Aviv, and traces its history back to the 1930s. It is Israel’s largest and busiest airport by far — the main hub of El Al as well as the home base of Israir and Arkia — and functions as the country’s principal gateway for both international and the limited domestic network.

Serving the Tel Aviv metropolitan area, TLV reaches about 93 regularly-served nonstop destinations, spanning Europe, the Gulf, Africa, Asia and North America — easily the widest network in the country. Top destinations include Dubai, Larnaca, Frankfurt, Athens, Vienna and New York.

Main airlines: El Al, Israir, Arkia, Wizz Air, TUS Airways. See the full route map for TLV on AirportRoutes →

🛬 Haifa (HFA)

Haifa Airport (Uri Michaeli Airport) lies beside the bay in Israel’s northern port city, close to the city centre. Its short runway limits it to smaller turboprops and regional jets, which has historically kept its network modest. It serves the Haifa region and the wider north, sparing travellers there the long trip down to Ben Gurion for a handful of routes.

Serving Haifa, HFA reaches around five regularly-served nonstop destinations — a mix of domestic hops to Eilat (Ramon) and short international leisure routes to Cyprus and Greece, including Larnaca, Athens and Heraklion. Its growth has been led by start-up carrier Air Haifa, which launched scheduled flights from the airport in recent years.

🏜️ Ramon (ETM)

Ramon International Airport opened in 2019 in the Timna Valley, about 18 km north of Eilat in Israel’s far south. Named after astronaut Ilan Ramon and his son Asaf, it replaced the cramped old Eilat city airport (and the former Ovda airbase) as the gateway to the Red Sea resort, with a full-length runway capable of handling wide-body jets and international charters.

Serving Eilat and the southern Arava, ETM shows about two regularly-served nonstop destinations in the route data — domestic links up to Tel Aviv and Haifa — supplemented by seasonal international leisure charters to and from Europe. Traffic here is highly seasonal, peaking with winter-sun and Red Sea diving trips.

Main airlines: Israir, Arkia, Air Haifa, El Al. See the full route map for ETM on AirportRoutes →
