How to Use

Step 1: Upload Your CSV File

Drag and drop your CSV file onto the upload area, or click to browse your computer. Your CSV should contain columns with latitude and longitude coordinates (decimal format like 40.7128, -74.0060).

Step 2: Confirm Column Mapping

The tool automatically detects which columns contain your coordinates. Review the auto-detected mapping and adjust if needed. You can also select an optional “Label” column to display names or titles on your map markers.

Step 3: Explore Your Map

Click “Generate Map” to visualize your data. Your locations appear as interactive markers. Click any marker to see all the data for that point. Use the layer control (top-right) to switch between map styles.

Supported CSV Formats

Your CSV file should include columns for geographic coordinates. The tool recognizes common column names:

  • Latitude columns: lat, latitude, y, latitud, breite
  • Longitude columns: lng, lon, longitude, x, longitud, laenge
  • Label columns: name, title, label, id, address, location, city

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my data secure?

Yes, completely. All data processing happens directly in your web browser using JavaScript. Your CSV file is never uploaded to any server — it stays 100% on your device. We cannot see, access, or store your data.

What’s the maximum file size?

Since processing happens in your browser, file size limits depend on your device’s memory. Most modern devices handle files with tens of thousands of rows without issues. For very large datasets (100,000+ rows), you may experience slower performance.

Why aren’t my coordinates showing on the map?

Make sure your coordinates are in decimal degree format (e.g., 40.7128, not 40°42’46”). Check that latitude values are between -90 and 90, and longitude values are between -180 and 180. The sidebar shows how many points were successfully mapped.

Can I export or save my map?

Currently, the tool is designed for quick visualization and exploration. For permanent maps with sharing capabilities we are planning a more sophisticated app in the future.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes! The tool is fully responsive and works on smartphones and tablets. You can tap to upload files, pinch to zoom on the map, and tap markers to view details.

What coordinate formats are supported?

The tool supports decimal degrees (DD) format, which is the most common format in CSV files. Examples: 40.7128 (latitude), -74.0060 (longitude). DMS (degrees, minutes, seconds) format is not currently supported.

Can I change the marker colors or icons?

The current version uses a standard blue marker style. For custom marker styling, colors and more advanced features, check out Mappr’s static map generator.
