US Data Centers Map is a fast, free way to see where America’s data centers are. Turn on your location for a near-me view, search any address, and browse the nearest facilities by operator and type, from hyperscale cloud campuses to colocation and telecom sites.

Data centers are the physical backbone of the internet and the AI boom, and they are being built at a record pace. This map plots the ones the OpenStreetMap community has mapped so far, color-coded by the kind of operator, so you can quickly see who runs the buildings near you and which parts of the country are the biggest hubs.

It is built for curiosity and context, not for a sales pitch. There are no logins, no forms, and no fabricated numbers. Where the data is incomplete, the map says so, and every facility links out so you can verify the details yourself.

How to use it

  1. Tap Use my location for a near-me view, or type an address, city or ZIP into the search box.
  2. Read the nearest data centers in the list beside the map, each with its operator, type and distance from you.
  3. Use the type filter to focus on hyperscale, colocation, telecom or other facilities, and the operator filter to isolate a company like Amazon Web Services, Google or Equinix.
  4. Pick a state from the dropdown, or tap a state in the ranking, to zoom the map to that state.
  5. Click any point for its details, then open it in Google Maps or follow the operator link. Use Share to copy a link to your current view.

What the map shows

Each point is one mapped data center. The color shows the kind of operator, inferred from how OpenStreetMap labels it:

  • Hyperscale / cloud (teal): the cloud and AI giants such as Amazon Web Services, Google, Microsoft, Meta, Apple, Oracle and xAI.
  • Colocation (indigo): multi-tenant operators that lease space and power, such as Digital Realty, Equinix, QTS, CoreSite, CyrusOne, Switch, NTT and Flexential.
  • Telecom / network (amber): carriers and network operators such as Lumen, Verizon and CenturyLink.
  • Enterprise / other (slate): universities, banks, government and smaller operators, plus any facility where the operator is not mapped.

The strip above the map shows how many data centers are in view, how many are hyperscale, and how many distinct operators they cover. Zoom in and the clustered circles break apart into individual, color-coded buildings.

The US data center boom

A handful of states dominate. Virginia leads by a wide margin thanks to Loudoun County’s Data Center Alley near Ashburn, the densest concentration of data centers on the planet. Texas, Oregon, California, Ohio, Arizona, Washington and Iowa round out the top tier, drawn by cheap power, land, fiber and tax incentives.

The build-out is accelerating because AI training and inference need enormous amounts of compute, and that compute needs power and water for cooling. That is why data centers have become a local issue in many communities, from electricity demand and grid strain to water use and noise. Use the state ranking to see how your state compares.

About the data

The map is built from OpenStreetMap, using the community-mapped tag for data centers, and is refreshed as a snapshot (this build: July 2026). OpenStreetMap data is available under the Open Database License (ODbL), and attribution is shown in the map footer.

Two honest limits to keep in mind. First, coverage is partial: the United States has well over 3,000 data centers and the count keeps climbing, while this map shows the substantial-but-incomplete subset that volunteers have mapped, denser in well-mapped metros and the known hyperscale corridors. Second, OpenStreetMap does not carry capacity (megawatts or square feet) or build status (operating, under construction or announced), so this map does not show them and never guesses. The operator type is inferred from the mapped operator name and can be wrong or unknown.

No. OpenStreetMap does not record capacity in megawatts or square feet, or power and water use, so this map does not show them rather than guess. It shows location, operator and type only.

How complete and up to date is this data?

It is a community-mapped snapshot and is deliberately labeled as incomplete. The US has well over 3,000 data centers; this shows the subset mapped in OpenStreetMap as of the build date in the footer. Coverage is denser in well-mapped metros.

Why is a data center I know missing, or one shown that has changed?

Because the data is crowd-sourced, a real facility may not be mapped yet, and a mapped one may have changed operator or closed. You can add or correct it directly on OpenStreetMap, and the next snapshot will pick it up.
