Geo Odd-One-Out

Geo Odd-One-Out is a free daily geography game with one simple twist: you are shown four countries, three of them share a hidden rule, and one does not. Your job is to tap the odd one out. It might be the only landlocked country, the only one in a different continent, the only one that drives on the right, or the only one that does not use the euro.

The catch is that the rule is only revealed after you pick, so you have to spot the pattern yourself. Every puzzle is checked so there is exactly one defensible answer, and the reveal tells you what the three had in common. It is a fast, satisfying way to sharpen your world knowledge, one “oh, they are all islands” moment at a time.

Play the daily puzzle (five rounds, the same for everyone worldwide) to build a streak, or jump into endless mode and pick a rule pack to keep going as long as your three lives last. No signup, no app, just geography.

How to play

  1. Look at the four country cards. Three of them share a hidden rule.
  2. Tap the country you think breaks the rule, the odd one out.
  3. The game reveals whether you were right and explains the rule the other three shared.
  4. In the daily puzzle you play five rounds that ramp from easy to hard, then get a score out of five and a shareable result.
  5. In endless mode you keep going on fresh rounds until you run out of your three lives. Beat your best solved count.

Daily puzzle

Five rounds, seeded from the date, so every player in the world gets the same puzzle each day. It flips over at midnight UTC. Finish it to grow your day streak and copy a spoiler-free green and red result grid to share.

Endless mode

Fresh rounds with three lives. Choose a rule pack to focus your practice: Mixed (every rule), Continents (continent and hemisphere), Land and Sea (landlocked and island nations), or Culture (language, currency and driving side). Your best solved count is saved for each pack.

The geography behind it

Each puzzle is built around one of seven kinds of rule, so you end up learning a lot of geography by playing:

  • Continent: three countries on one continent, one somewhere else.
  • Hemisphere: three north of the equator, one to the south (or the reverse).
  • Landlocked: three with no coastline, one with a sea border.
  • Island nations: three island countries, one on the mainland.
  • Driving side: three that drive on the left, one on the right (or the reverse).
  • Official language: three that share an official language, one that does not.
  • Currency: three that use the euro, one European country that does not.

Country facts (name, ISO code, continent, latitude and population) come from the Mappr open country dataset. The landlocked, island, driving-side, official-language and eurozone lists are curated and hand-checked. Flags are from the public-domain flag-icons project.

Frequently asked questions

Is it the same puzzle for everyone today?

Yes. The daily puzzle is seeded from the calendar date in UTC, so every player worldwide gets the same five rounds each day. It resets at midnight UTC, which is what makes comparing scores and streaks fair.

How is the odd one out decided?

When a puzzle is built, the game checks every attribute it tracks (continent, hemisphere, landlocked status, island status, driving side, the euro and each official language) across all four countries. A round is only kept if every attribute that separates one country from the other three points at the same country. That guarantees there is exactly one defensible answer.

What if more than one country looks odd to me?

It can feel that way, but each kept puzzle has a single intended answer, and the reveal always tells you the exact rule the other three shared. If you picked a different country, that is part of the fun of learning the pattern.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no signup and no app to install. Your streak, stats and best scores are saved privately in your own browser.

Where does the data come from?

Country facts come from the Mappr open country dataset. The landlocked, island, driving-side, official-language and eurozone lists are curated and hand-checked, and flags are from the public-domain flag-icons project.

Is Geo Odd-One-Out free?

Yes, completely free to play in your browser on phone, tablet or desktop.
