Asian Capitals Quiz

Think you know your Asian geography? The Asian Capitals Quiz gives you a country and asks for one thing: its capital city. From the easy anchors — Tokyo, Beijing, New Delhi, Seoul — to the ones that catch everyone out, it covers all 46 Asian countries and their capitals on a fast, clean map that actually works on your phone.

Play it whichever way suits you. Get a country name and name its capital, flip it around and name the country from its capital, or locate the country on an interactive map of Asia. Each question highlights the country in question, so you build the map and the capitals together. Choose Easy for multiple choice, Medium for a first-letter hint, or Hard to type the answer from memory.

New every day: a Daily Challenge of ten Asian capitals that is identical for everyone, with a shareable results grid so you can compare scores with friends. Or race the clock in a 90-second Speed Run and see how many capitals you can rattle off.

How to play

  1. Daily Challenge — ten Asian capitals to name, the same for every player today. Finish to reveal your green-and-red result grid and share it.
  2. Name the Capital — you are given a country and name its capital, by multiple choice (Easy), first-letter hint (Medium) or typing (Hard).
  3. Name the Country — the reverse: a capital city is shown and you name the country it belongs to.
  4. Locate — you are given a capital and click the country it belongs to on the map of Asia.
  5. Speed Run — name as many capitals as you can in 90 seconds, building a streak multiplier.

Every mode tracks your streak, score and accuracy, and a local leaderboard keeps your best runs. There is also a Learn mode — tap any country to see its capital, region, area, language and currency before you test yourself.

How many capital cities are in Asia?

Asia has 46 sovereign countries that are UN members with their own capital, and this quiz covers every one — from Ankara in the west to Tokyo in the east, and from Astana in the north down to Dili in Timor-Leste. That total includes the transcontinental states on the Europe–Asia border that sit geographically in Asia — Turkey (Ankara), Georgia (Tbilisi), Armenia (Yerevan), Azerbaijan (Baku) and Kazakhstan (Astana) — while Russia, whose capital Moscow is in Europe, is left to the European quiz. The three tiny island and city-states of Asia — Bahrain, Singapore and the Maldives — are drawn as clickable dots so you can still find them.

Tips for learning the capitals of Asia

  • Learn them region by region — start with East Asia and Southeast Asia, then South Asia, the Middle East and Caucasus (Western Asia), and finally the five Central Asian “-stans”.
  • Watch the country–capital name traps: the capital is often not the country’s biggest or best-known city — Turkey is Ankara (not Istanbul), Kazakhstan is Astana (not Almaty), Myanmar is Naypyidaw (not Yangon) and Vietnam is Hanoi (not Ho Chi Minh City).
  • Drill the hard clusters on their own: the Central Asian capitals (Astana, Tashkent, Bishkek, Dushanbe, Ashgabat) and the Gulf capitals (Riyadh, Doha, Manama, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Kuwait City) are where most points are lost.
  • Use the daily challenge to learn ten fresh capitals a day — spaced repetition beats cramming, and the streak keeps you coming back.

How the daily challenge works

The daily set is generated from the calendar date with a seeded shuffle, so every player in the world gets the same ten capitals on the same day — no account, no server tracking you. When you finish, your result is encoded as a grid of green (correct) and red (wrong) squares, ready to copy or share. Come back tomorrow for a fresh set and keep your streak alive.

Data & method

Capitals and country facts come from the open mledoze/countries dataset (ODbL), and the map of Asia is drawn from Natural Earth (public domain) via the world-atlas 1:50m dataset. Countries are joined on their ISO-3166 numeric code, filtered to the Asian set with a capital, and the whole dataset is bundled into the app — so it loads instantly and works offline, with no tracking.

Frequently asked questions

How many Asian capitals are in the quiz?

All 46 — every UN-member country in Asia with its own capital. That includes the five transcontinental states on the Europe–Asia border that lie geographically in Asia (Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan), and the small island and city-states Bahrain, Singapore and the Maldives.

Which Asian capitals are hardest to remember?

The usual trip-ups are capitals that are not their country’s biggest city — Ankara (Turkey), Astana (Kazakhstan), Naypyidaw (Myanmar) and Hanoi (Vietnam) — plus the five Central Asian “-stan” capitals (Astana, Tashkent, Bishkek, Dushanbe, Ashgabat) and the tightly-packed Gulf states. The Caucasus trio (Tbilisi, Yerevan, Baku) rounds out the toughest set, which is why Learn mode lets you drill them before you play.

Is the Asian Capitals Quiz free?
